Overview
Organised under the aegis of the Arunachal Pradesh Government and the Indian Army, the Tawang Marathon returns for its 2nd edition on 24 October 2026, starting from Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso High Altitude Stadium in the remote Himalayan town of Tawang. Race morning unfolds early, with the full 42.195km Marathon flagging off at 5:25am, followed by the 21.09km Half Marathon at 5:40am, the 10km run at 6:00am, and the 5km at 6:30am, all designed to make the most of the crisp, high-altitude morning air. Following a successful inaugural edition, this year's race promises even greater challenges and excitement, inviting runners from across India to celebrate the nation's diversity and democratic spirit through the shared act of running. Given Tawang's extreme altitude, the event places strong emphasis on acclimatisation, with dedicated resources and travel packages available to help participants prepare safely for the conditions. Managed by Cyruns, the marathon has quickly become a symbol of adventure and national unity, set against the mystic mountain scenery of Arunachal Pradesh, "the land of the rising sun."
