Dasgaon Fort: Ancient Port Sentinel Known historically as Bhopalgad, this fort overlooks the Savitri River in Dasgaon, near the ancient port of Mahad. *Key Role:* Vital for monitoring trade (water/land) via Mahad Port since ancient times. Became crucial after Raigad was named capital during Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's reign. *British Era:* Restored and renamed Dasgaon Fort by the British. *Visit Tip:* Minimal ruins, only requires 1 hour to explore\! Easily combined with nearby Raigad Fort, Gandhharpale Caves, and Sav Hot Springs.

**Dasgaon Fort: Watch Tower at the Cleft** Find this fort at the Dasgaon pass on the Mumbai-Goa highway (near Mahad). It overlooks the Savitri River and Konkan Railway. **Getting There:**1. Take the small road from the pass to Dasgaon village (5 min walk). 2. Follow the paved cement road to the Zilla Parishad school (5 min walk). 3. The fort trail starts behind the school entrance. 4. Walk 5 minutes to a flat surface. Keep the valley on your left to find a carved stone water tank.**The Fort:** Paths split here: one to the top, one to the backside. The path to the top is overgrown (5 min climb) but reveals ruined remains and hidden fortification walls. **Key Location:** The fort was a crucial watch tower for land and water trade, thanks to its strategic spot at the confluence of the Kalu and Savitri rivers.

Getting Here: * By Road: Dasgaon is 162 kms from Mumbai (Mumbai-Goa highway, 11 kms before Mahad). All ST buses heading to Konkan stop here. * By Rail: Exit at Veer station (Konkan Railway). Dasgaon is 5 km from Veer station; autos are available.
