About Peb

Fort Peb (VikatGad): A must-visit one-day trek! Located 3-4 km west of Neral, on the Mumbai-Pune road, northeast of Panvel. Escape the Matheran crowds! Similar climbing time and features (cave, nature) to Gorakhgad. Note: While it has a dense forest path, deforestation has reduced it.

History & Significance

Fort Peb: Named after Goddess Pebi at its base. Fun Fact: Shivaji Maharaj used the fort's caves as grain storage silos!

Places to See

Fort Highlights: **Swami Samarth Cave & Meditation Caverns** The fort's cave is occupied by Swami Samarth disciples, who have maintained its dignity and cleanliness for ten years. Nearby, explore underground meditation caverns (still in good condition\!). Note: You must crawl in, only one person at a time. Two caverns fill with water during monsoon. **Topmost Bastion & Views** Access the top by climbing the fort wall—likely the main entrance—using fixed rock rods (ladders available on request). The main draw is the topmost bastion, which offers incredible views. From here, clearly see the ridge connecting **Matheran** and **Peb** mountains. Find many crystals here\! **Temple & Cistern** On the other side of the fort, a deity temple is being constructed by disciples near a large cistern. You can reside here briefly. **Seasonal Attractions & Panoramic Sights** A beautiful waterfall on the way is a major attraction. The scenery from the cave is marvelous during the monsoon. Spot the pinnacles of **Navara-Navari, Bhatoba**, and **Irshaal**, plus the forts of **Chanderi, Prabalgad, Malanggad**, and **Nakhind**. Trekking is pleasant in all seasons\!
