Places to See
Jaigad Fort Highlights: Built on a plateau. A smaller fort section guards the creek entrance. Features a dry trench to deter direct attacks. The main entrance is hidden by bastions. British officers used narrow bastion windows as office windows, altering their original use for attack. Look for the carvings: two lotus flowers at the entrance, and a ruined central sculpture. Inside: Two porches, a large room (likely an ammunition warehouse), and stairs on the fortified wall. Historical structures include a formerly three-storied building (now two stories) and two large rainwater tanks. Find the Lord Ganesh temple and the adjacent, ruined mansion (left arch is intact, right arches devastated). Two wells behind these structures hold water year-round.
