History & Significance
Fort History Highlights: Exact construction date unknown, but nearby Jain caves suggest existence since the 10th century. Maratha control period is undocumented. Note: Mughals seized control in 1688 by perfidy.

Fort Highlights **Starting Point: Tringalwadi Village** Discover the 'Pandav Leni' Caves at the foothills. These caves feature an outer verandah, the 'Vihar' abbey, and the inner 'Garbhagriha.' Look for the beautifully carved entrance and the statue of Lord Gautam Buddha inside the Vihar, complete with inscriptions below. Note: Three of the four verandah pillars have collapsed. **Ascending to the Fort**1. Find an enroute cave before the steps begin. 2. Climb the steps and see the palatial remnants. 3. From the palace remnants, follow the path right to find many dry cisterns. 4. Walk 5–10 minutes further to a large cave (fits 20–25 people) near the hillock (left side of the road). 5. A short walk ahead leads to underground cisterns with drinking water. Admire the beautifully carved pillars\! 6. The path continues to the Lord Shiva Temple.**View from the Brim** From the fort brim near the temple, you can see: * South: Talgad/Talegad and Igatpuri * East: Kalsubai * North: Trimbak range, Harihar, and Basgad**Secret Doorway & Summit**1. Return to the beginning of the steps, past the palace remnants. 2. Take a right turn toward the devastated castle. 3. Take another right turn on the same path, then climb down to reach the fort's secret doorway. 4. This door is carved from a single sheet of rock. On the right, spot a 6–7 ft high statue of Lord Hanuman. 5. A carved step leads you to the top.**Time Estimate:** It takes approximately 1 hour to see the prominent spots.

How to Reach
Via Tringalwadi Village:1. **Reach Igatpuri Station:** Well connected by rail from Mumbai & Nasik. 2. **To Ambedkar Chowk:** Exit towards the S.T. stand end. Ambedkar Chowk is just before the S.T. stand. 3. **Hike to Vagholi Col:** Follow the route towards Vagholi col (30 min walk). 4. **Descend to Tringalwadi:** After moving down the col, turn left to reach Tringalwadi village (half-an-hour). 5. **Alternative:** Hire a jeep from Igatpuri to Tringalwadi village via Ghoti. 6. **Cross Tringalwadi Dam:** The village is behind Tringalwadi dam. Cross the entire dam wall. 7. **Foot of the Fort:** A road on the right leads to the foothills. You will see 'Pandav leni' caves here. 8. **Summit Time:** Approx. half-an-hour climb to reach the top\!
