History & Significance

**Vairatgad History Snapshot:** Built by King Bhoj (Shilahar dynasty) in the 11th century. Shivaji Maharaj later used it as a military station, conquering the Wai region and adding Vairatgad and Pandavgad to his kingdom. Captured by the British in 1818.

Places to See

Explore the Fort's Top: Small, with remnants of old buildings. out the dilapidated entrance bastion. See 5-6 cisterns left of the main gate (lower cliff side) and a small cave to the right. Climb 20-25 steps to the summit. Find the Hanuman temple and idol on the left. Notice plinths nearby. The rampart is in good condition. Exit Point: Descend to Mhasava village via a cliff gap opposite the main entrance. Near the exit: A hillock with a stone featuring indecipherable writings. Time needed: Approximately 1 hour. Further search may reveal more discoveries.

How to Reach

**Getting to the Fort**1. **Start Point:** Alight at Kadegaon bridge (4 km from Wai-Satara road). 2. **Next Stop:** Proceed to Vyajvadi village. 3. **Vyajvadi Routes (2 options):** * **Option 1 (Left Side):** Quickest way (30 min). * **Option 2 (Frequent Route):** Takes 1 hour. * *Note: Both paths merge before the final climb.* 4. **Final Stretch:** From the merge point, it's 10 minutes to the top, but the path is slippery. 5. **Alternate Route:** A very slippery path is available from the village Mhasava (opposite Vyajvadi).
