Bhaskargad (Basgad): Part of the Trimbak range, this fort is just 43 km east of Nashik. It guarded the ancient Gonda trade pass (West Coast to Nashik). Located near Trimbakeshwar, one of India's 12 Jyotirlingas.

History & Significance

Bhaskargad Fort: Ancient History While written records are unavailable, rock-cut steps and cisterns point to the Satvaahan dynasty (ancient origins). Key Control Periods: * 1271–1308: Yadavas of Devgiri * Post-1308: Bahamanis * 1629: Shahaji Maharaj (revolt against Nizamshahi) * 1633: Moghuls * 1670: Moropant Pingle (for Shivaji Maharaj) * 1688: Moghuls regain * 1730: Local fishermen rebellion (captured from Mughals) * Until 1818: Peshwas * 1818: British capture

How to Reach

**Getting There** **Base Village:** Nirgudpada (20 km from Trimbakeshwar). **Visible Forts from Nirgudpada:** Harihar and Bhaskargad (Bhaskargad is to the left). **Trail Info:** Cross a rivulet to reach the trail. Expect a 1.5-hour hike to the steps. **Routes to Nirgudpada:**1. **From Nashik:** \~50 km east on SH27 (Trimbakeshwar road). 2. **From Khodala (Mumbai/Thane/Dombivli travelers):** * Kalyan → Kasara → Khodala → Nirgudpada * Kalyan → Bhiwandi → Wada → Khodala → Nirgudpada**Travel Tip:** Traveling at odd hours? Take a private vehicle—buses may be infrequent, and the route is very lonely at night.

Important Notes

Plan a 2-day trek! Hit Harihar, Basgad, and Trimbakeshwar. For an epic range trek, include Anjaneri and Brahmagiri forts.
