About Riwa Fort

Riwa Fort: Built in 1672 AD by Britishers (Jerald Augier) after the 1672 Siddi of Janjira attack on Mumbai. Located on a small hill in Sion, Mumbai, it was part of a new chain of defense forts. Its purpose: monitor Mahim Creek trade and guard against threats from the Portuguese and Marathas in the north.

How to Reach

Go to Sion Station (Central Mumbai Railway). The fort's last monument (a bastion) is located inside the Ayurvedic Botanical Garden, on a small hill slope within the premises of the Government Ayurvedic College (a short walk from Sion East).
