WARNING: Approach paths are broken! Technical climbing expertise & equipment are required to access. Look for the two distinctive pinnacles, named "Kalavantinicha Mahal."
Best time to visit
Best Time to Visit: Skip the rainy season and the two months following. Summer essential: Bring water!
History & Significance
Padargad History: Its origins are unknown, but historically significant! Aurangzeb used this fort strategically to conquer the nearby Peth fort.
Places to See
Reach the summit! Face two tough patches: the Chimmney climb and a rope climb for a rock patch. **Fort Path Highlights:** * **Caves for Vigil:** A large cave (5-6 people) and a small cave (1 person) were strategically used to keep watch on the Ganesh ghat trade route. A third, larger cave (10-12 accommodation, 30 seated) is near the second pinnacle. * **Steps:** Look for rock-cut steps in the cleft, but the first 5 are damaged—use adjoining trees for support\! After a diagonal turn, 10-12 built-in steps lead you to the top.**The Summit:** The fort is split into two parts. * **Part 1:** Features a small flat ground, 3 dried rock-cut water tanks, and two platforms. * **Part 2:** Connected by a narrow passage, this area hosts two independent pinnacles, a water tank, and a platform below the first one.**View & Nearby:** To the east: Bhimashankar hills. To the north: Siddhagad. At the base (north side): Padargadwadi village. To the south: Peth fort. To the west: Tungi fort.
