Gopalgad Fort: Historic port (known as Anjanvel) protecting the Vashishti river trade route to Chiplun. Built at Dabhol (Dalbheshwar) creek mouth. **Heads Up:** The fort is currently privately controlled, with locked gates and guards. Trekkers have protested this for 7 years.

History & Significance
**Anjanvel Fort (Gopalgad) History** Conquered from Adilshah by Shivaji Maharaj in 1660 (Dabhol campaign). Original builder unknown. A dock was built, and the fort was renamed Gopalgad. Captured by Siddi Khairatkhan in 1699; held by Siddis for 46 years, who strengthened it. Tulaji Angre captured it in 1745. Ramji Mahadev Bivalkar took it for the Peshwas in 1756. A person faking as Sadashivrao Bhau stayed here for 6 months after the Third Battle of Panipat. Remained with Marathas until British Colonel Kennedy captured it in 1818.

Explore this 7-Acre Fort! * Ramparts and most of the 15 bastions are intact. * Moat surrounds two sides. * Access: Vehicles can reach the main entrance. * Structure: Divided into three parts: Upper Citadel, Parkot (sea side, dual layered wall, reinforced by Kairatkhan), and Balekot. * Features: Dilapidated palace, large rectangular cistern, smaller cistern near the Parkot door. * Note: Illegally occupied and used as a mango farm, but remains open for visitors without hindrance.

How to Reach
Getting There: Anjanvel is 12 km north of Guhagar (a popular spot). Regular state/private buses run from Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, & Pune. Travel via private vehicle or rickshaw is recommended over ST bus. Sightseeing time: 2-3 hours.
Important Notes
Plan a perfect trip! Combine Gopalgad, Hedvi, and Velneshwar. Don't miss Palshet (ancient port) en route to Hedvi. These spots are 20 km south of Guhagar. Also visit Guhagar beach and the Arjun-Krishna temple in town!
