About Ghosalgad
Fort Ghosalgad (Veergad) & Fort Avchitgad are near Roha. Ghosalgad guarded trade via Tamhanghat (a route through Janjira, Talgad, Ghosalgad, Tamhanghat, Ghangad). Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured Ghosalgad and renamed it "Veergad." Its significance is highlighted as one of the 12 forts Shivaji Maharaj retained after the Treaty of Purandar with the Mughals (facilitated by Mirza Raje Jaisingh).

History & Significance
**Ghosalgad History: A Timeline** Builder unknown. Under Nizamshah's regime in the 16th century. *1648:* Conquered by Marathas. Raghunath Ballal (Korde) Sabnis VII led 5,000 warriors, securing Danda Rajapuri, Tale, Ghosale, and nearby coast. *1659:* Siddhi tried to capture Ghosalgad but retreated after hearing news of Shivaji Maharaj's assassination of Afzal Khan. Later supervised by Siddhi, Angre, and Marathas. *1818:* Won by Col. Prauther.

**Ghosalgad Fort Highlights** Start at Ghosale village to view the fortification. Inside, find a **Water Cistern** (left) and the **Chor Darwaja** (secret doorway) for descending. **Fortification Viewpoints:** * Ruins of the main entrance. * Two stones with **Sharabh carvings**. * Toilets from earlier regimes.**Summit & Citadel:**1. Reach the **Machi of Ghosalgad** (Summit/Plateau), featuring an intact **Bastion**. 2. The Bastion end offers a breathtaking view of the **Citadel**. 3. Proceed to the Citadel (main path is from the back side).**Citadel Route Details:** * Left side has drinkable **Water Cisterns**. * Go around the Citadel; another **Water Cistern** is on the right. * Keep the fortification on the left and move toward the **Caves**. * View a **Water Cistern** further down in the valley (climb back up to the main route). * Backside of Citadel: See a **Cannon**. * Slippery path leads directly to the Citadel—be cautious\!**Citadel:** Panoramic views of the whole area. Note: The Citadel has **no remnants**.
