About Kokandiva

Sahyadri Range: Home to many forts, including the hidden gem, **Fort Raigad**. Raigad was the capital of **Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj**. To protect the capital, surrounding hills were fortified. **Kokandiva** is one such fort, located North of Raigad, built to watch routes near Raigad and **Kavlyaghaat**.

**Hike Highlights** **Ascend for 30 Min:** You'll find a cave and four water cisterns. **Nearest Cistern:** Easily accessible, but only a foot-wide hole allows one person at a time to collect water (no proper steps). **Path to the Top:** From the cave, follow the path. **Caution\!** You'll need to climb a 10-foot rock patch. **Monsoon Warning:** This spot is slippery\! **Carry a rope** for safety during ascent/descent. **Final Push:** After the rock patch, the path to the top has scree—watch your footing\! **Kokandiva Summit Views:** Spot Fort Raigad (South), Lingana (South-East), and Fort Torna (East).

How to Reach

**How to Reach Kokandiva Fort** Two routes lead to the fort: **1. Via Garjaiwadi (Easiest)** * From Pune: Reach Ghol (approx. 75 km) via Pune-Panshet-Dapsar. * From Ghol: Head east toward Garjaiwadi (approx. 2-3 km, 1 hour). * From Garjaiwadi: Follow the path right. After a small descent near trees, it's a 10-minute walk to a plateau where Kokandiva is visible. * Fort Access: A path from the plateau goes up to the cave leading to the top of the fort.**2. Via Sandoshi** * From Mumbai/Panvel: Reach Mahad. * From Mahad: Reach Sandoshi (approx. 32 km) via Mahad-Pachad-Sandoshi. Autos, 6 seaters, and S.T. buses are available. * Ascend Kavlyaghaat from Sandoshi (approx. 2 hours) to reach a plateau. * Fort Access: One route goes to Garjai village, and the other leads directly to the fort.

Important Notes

Heads Up! Monsoon Cave Route is SLIPPERY! Use EXTREME caution when ascending. Consider packing a small rope. Also: Water at Garjawadi is NOT potable. Bring enough drinking water stock!
