About Ramdurg
Ramdurg Fort: 17th Century History & Views! Built in the 17th century by Dafale, Commander of Bijapur, Ramdurg Fort in Maharashtra was primarily for administration and defense. Its location on the only hill in Rampur village offers a bird's-eye view of the area. Before the fort, the site was popular due to an ancient Lord Shiva Temple (Hemadpanti style) on the hill. GETTING THERE: Take a train to Sangli or Miraj, then hire a private vehicle to visit Ramdurg (or Rampur) fort and nearby Old Panhala.

Places to See
Explore the Fort! The large, intact entrance faces East with carved stone steps opposite. Fortification walls and bastions are intact, built with stone sealed by local white clay mud. Discover the Shiva Temple: Located right of the entrance, facing South. The main hall is in ruins, but four decorative carved pillars remain, helping visualize the structure. The temple arc has beautiful carvings, and the door strip features an idol of Lord Ganesh. The roof above the Shivlinga has beautiful floral carvings. Next, visit the Flag Bastion (now in ruins) opposite the temple for a panoramic view of Rampur village and nearby regions. You can circumnavigate the fort wall from here. Behind the temple, stones suggest a previous structure. On the South side, there's a built-in water tank. A special path to the water tank (between the north bastion and fort wall) is currently blocked by fallen stones. Allow 30 minutes to visit the entire fort.
