History & Significance
Kalyan gad (Nandgiri fort) was built by King Bhoj-II (Shilahar dynasty) between 1178-1209. Satara inscriptions confirm its Shilahar origin; Jain statues (Lord Parshvanath) are found in the cave, indicating Shilahar donations to Jain people. Shivaji Maharaj conquered it in 1673. Post-Shivaji, Pratinidhis administered it, followed by the Peshwas after internal conflicts. General Prisler seized the fort for the British in 1818.
