History & Significance
**Fort History Highlights** Built by Shilahar King Bhoj II. Captured by Marathas in 1667 from Adilshah. Shivaji Maharaj renovated it as a key army post, but it was briefly recaptured by Adilshah, then secured again by Marathas in 1672. Rajaram Maharaj stayed here returning from Gingee. Taken over by Parshurambhau Patwardhan (late 18th Century). Won by the Chatrapati of Karveer a decade later. 1844 Mutiny: Militia participated during the Kolhapur uprising. Commanding Officer Babaji Ayrekar, supported by Subhana Nikam and 300 soldiers, defended the fort. The British ultimately destroyed the main entrance by cannon fire.

Bhairavnath Temple: Located on the right at the top (Hemadpanthi style), featuring arches, Deepmaal, and a nearby flag post. The Palace: Behind the Bhairavnath temple is a laterite rock structure, thought to be the main court.
