About Trimbakgad

Trimbak Mountain Range: West of Nashik, North of Igatpuri. Includes: Basgad, Utwad, Fanicha dongar, Harihar fort (1st range); Bramhagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad forts (2nd range). Bramhagiri Fort: Built to protect an ancient Maharashtra-Gujarat trade route. Unconquered since the medieval period! Also home to Trimbakeshwar, one of Lord Shiva's 12 Jyotirlingas.

Places to See

Fort Highlights: Reach the large plateau summit, then head toward the small raised hill. Find the "Siddhagufa" cave via the left path on the trail. At the next diversion, take the right path (15 min) to the temple where the Godavari River originates. Then, the left path (10 min) leads to another temple—where Lord Shiva is said to have brought the Godavari to Earth. See remnants of structures and spot Anjaneri and Harihar forts from the top!
