About Sagargad

Sagargad Fort (a.k.a. Kheddurg) is a year-round trekking spot near Mumbai. Why was it built? To watch the shores of Alibaug and Dharamtar creek! Historically, Sagargad was the sole protector of the Alibaug coast until Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj established forts like Khanderi, Kulaba, and Sarjekot. Fun fact: The name 'Sagargad' means 'Sea Fort' (Sagar=sea, Gad=fort), but the fort is actually 5 miles from the sea!
