About Gunawantgad

Lesser-known fort in Patan taluka, Satara district. Built to watch Karad-Chiplun trade. Also called Morgiri Fort (after Morgiri village). Visit nearby Dategad, Gunwantgad, and Vasantgad in one day via private vehicle.

Explore the Morgiri Fort Hill! The fort stands behind Morgiri village, spreading NW to NE. Start at Bhairavnath Temple (via paved road from the village base). Don't miss the Dec. religious function! See Veerghals, shrines on the porch, and an inverted canon in front. PRO TIP: Fill your water here! Exit behind the temple to start the 30-min path to the fort's rock wall base. Trail Details: * A short trail left reveals a ruined water tank. * Continue on the main path to rock-cut steps leading to the fort. * Spot the flag hoisted on the topmost part (to your right from the steps).North East (NE) Side: * Dry water tank (right, heading toward the flag). * Deep pond (left), currently dry. * Remains of two structures hosting the flag.North West (NW) Side: * Head back to the entrance, then NW. * See remains of two structures. * Find another dried-up water tank and pond. * The NW area is much larger than the NE side.Total exploration time: ~30 minutes.

How to Get There: Take the Mumbai – Kolhapur route to Umbraj. From Umbraj, drive 28 km to Patan via the Umbraj – Chiplun road. Morgiri (base village) is 8 km from Patan. Find S.T. buses and private jeeps from Patan.
