Madh Fort (Varsova Fort): Built in 1600 by the Portuguese on Madh Island, north of Mumbai, between the island and Versova. It guarded Marve creek and served as a prison.

Places to See

Mumbai's best-preserved fort! Ramparts and bastions are intact. It's surrounded by land on three sides, facing the Arabian Sea on one side. Note: Managed by IAF, viewable only from the outside. Photography is NOT allowed. Access is via stairs through the bastion; the main entrance and the secret sea passage are closed. Slits for guns are visible in the walls.

How to Reach

Take BEST Bus 271 from Malad West. Walk to the back of the fort towards Killeshwar Temple. A path from the temple circles the fort!
