About Agumbe Rainforest Trails

Widely known as the "Cherrapunji of the South," Agumbe receives some of the highest rainfall in India. The trails here do not lead to sweeping grassy peaks; instead, they plunge you into one of the most pristine, dark, and dense tropical rainforest canopies in the world. The hikes usually culminate at spectacular hidden waterfalls dropping into deep gorges.

Best time to visit

November, December, January, February

History & Significance

Agumbe holds a special place in Indian pop culture as the filming location for the beloved 1980s television series Malgudi Days. Scientifically, it is globally renowned as the capital of the King Cobra, drawing herpetologists from around the world.

Places to See

Barkana Falls (one of the highest tiered waterfalls in India), Onake Abbi Falls, the Agumbe Sunset View Point, Doddamane (the heritage house from Malgudi Days), and the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS).
