About Vasantgad
Vasantgad Fort: Built by Shilahar King Bhoj. Conquered by Shivaji Maharaj in 1659. Rajaram Maharaj briefly stayed here after returning from Jinji. Aurangzeb seized it in 1700, renaming it "Kili-da-Fateh," but the Marathas reclaimed it by 1706.

Vasantgad Fort: Fascinating Spots * **Base Village:** Talbeed, famous as the home of Hambirrao Mohite (Shivaji Maharaj's second Commander-in-chief) and Queen Tarabai. See Mohite's memorial here\! * **Fort Route:** Starts from the village outskirts. * **Key Sights (1.5 hr visit):** * Destroyed fort entrance. * Ganesh idol carved in ramparts. * Big temple of Chandrasen (son of Ravana's sister Shoorpanakha). * Remnants of two more temples. * Extensive, well-fortified mountain top with strong bastions. * Intact 'Gomukhi' doorway with carvings on the south bastion. * Intact ramparts. * Big grinding wheel. * **View:** Get a great glimpse of the Koyna River from the top.
