About Bandaje Falls
Bandaje Arbi is one of the most spectacular, untamed waterfalls in the Western Ghats, plunging nearly 200 feet down a sheer cliff face. What makes this trek unique is that the trail leads you to the very "snout" or top edge of the waterfall, offering magnificent but dizzying views of the water plunging into the heavily forested Netravati valley below.

The waterfall sits just below the ridgeline of the historic Ballalarayana Durga Fort, serving as a crucial natural water source for the 12th-century Hoysala outpost.

How to Reach
Dakshina Kannada Route: Drive from Mangalore or Dharmasthala to Ujire, then head to Mundaje/Kadapikallu where the trek begins. Chikmagalur Route: Drive to Kottigehara, take a deviation to Sunkasale, and reach the Durgadahalli base.
Important Notes
A valid online permit from Karnataka Eco-Trails is strictly required. Safety: Do not attempt to cross the stream or stand too close to the edge of the falls, especially when water levels are high, as the rocks are incredibly slippery. Leeches: Heavy infestation in the lower forest sections post-monsoon. Nearby police station: Belthangady Police Station (Dakshina Kannada side) / Mudigere Police Station (Chikmagalur side) Nearby hospital: SDM Hospital, Ujire / Government Hospital, Mudigere
Facilities
- Stay Pitching tents near the waterfall or anywhere on the trail is strictly banned. Accommodation must be arranged at homestays in the respective base villages (Ujire/Mundaje or Sunkasale/Durgadahalli).
- FoodAbsolutely no food stalls on the trail. You must carry a packed lunch and high-energy snacks from your base.
- WaterWater is available at the stream feeding the waterfall and a few points in the forest, but starting with at least 2 liters of water per person is mandatory.
