History & Significance
**Fort History: Strategic Genius\!** Shivaji Maharaj ordered forts built on shores or flattened hills to halt enemy access. It's believed Sambhaji Maharaj built this fort on a rock next to **Kolaba Fort**, following that edict. The Marathas fortified **Khanderi Island** (Alibaug sea) but ignored **Undheri**. In **1671**, the **Siddi of Janjira** seized Undheri and built a fort—a clever move against the Marathas\! To counter this threat to **Kolaba** and **Sarjekot** forts, Sambhaji Maharaj decided to connect them with a causeway.
Places to See
Kolaba Fort's little brother! This fort is compact (26m X 27m) with 5 bastions and a fortified wall. The main doorway faces Kolaba Fort (northwest). Climb the stairs for views from the brink. Inside, find a dried-up, overgrown well. A temple of Lord Vetal was once supposedly here.
