About Biligiri Rangan Hills Nature Trails

BR Hills is a biological bridge between two major mountain ranges. The "Nature Trails" here are deeply immersive, taking you through a mix of scrub, deciduous, and high-altitude Shola forests. Unlike commercial treks, these are focused on quiet observation, where you might spot over 250 species of birds, the Malabar Giant Squirrel, or even an elusive tiger or leopard in the distance.

Best time to visit

October, November, December, January, February, March

History & Significance

The hills are the ancestral home of the Soliga tribe, who have lived in harmony with the forest for centuries. A major historic attraction is the Dodda Sampige Mara, a massive Michelia Champaka tree believed to be over 2,000 years old, which is sacred to the Soligas.

Places to See

Biligiri Ranganatha Swamy Temple (perched on a cliff), Dodda Sampige Mara (The Big Champak Tree), VGKK Tribal Museum, and the K. Gudi Safari base.
