About Brahmagiri Hills
Straddling the border of Kodagu (Karnataka) and Wayanad (Kerala), the Brahmagiri trek is famous for its deep Shola forests, rolling green meadows, and rich wildlife. It offers a spectacular crossover of landscapes and is deeply connected to the local mythologies of both states.
Best time to visit
October, November, December, January, February
History & Significance
The hills are steeped in legend. The trek on the Karnataka side starts near Irupu Falls (Lakshmana Tirtha), which was supposedly created when Lakshmana shot an arrow into the hills to fetch water for Lord Rama. On the Kerala side lies the ancient Thirunelli Temple, often referred to as the "Kashi of the South."
Places to See
Irupu Falls (a magnificent cascading waterfall at the base), Narimalai Forest Guest House, the misty summit ridge, and the Munikal Caves (also known as Pakshipathalam on the Kerala side, famous for ancient sages and birdwatching).
