History & Significance
Historical Road Links: Bor Ghat, Malshej Ghat, & Naneghat connected the coast to the plateau. Naneghat was the Satvaahans' main route to Junnar, linking Kalyan & Sopara to Paithan. It was the shortest path, significantly cutting the distance compared to the current Malshej route to Junnar. Unfortunately, Naneghat was later destroyed and abandoned by alien rulers.
Places to See
**Naneghat Highlights** First stop: The spacious Naneghat Cave. Ancient carvings and Brahmi inscriptions detail the magnificent, generous Satvaahan period. Note: These precious inscriptions are sadly deteriorating due to neglect. The widely spread Naneghat Plateau is a must-see! Steps beside the cave lead left to the Plateau, or right to Nana's Thumb. This route provides a quick ascent to a higher altitude, unlike the longer Malshej Ghat route. Look out for the large stone vessel at the Ghat's entrance—it was historically used to collect coins as a toll!
