About Nagardhan
Nagardhan Fort: A Hidden Gem! Located 50 kms from Nagpur and 7 kms from Ramtek (often missed by tourists!). The secret chamber temple is a top attraction. Historical Significance: Nagardhan was the capital of the Wakatak dynasty (5th to 18th century A.D.). Literary Legend: Ruler Prabhavati (daughter of Ujjain province ruler) and her aide, the great poet Kalidas, were accommodated here. Folklore says Kalidas wrote his renowned poem Meghdoot after seeing the first rain on Ramtek hills from this fort, nostalgic for Ujjain. Restoration: The Archeological Society of India began a repair and maintenance project in 2012. Historical remains are scattered across the village.
