About Durgadi Fort
**Durgadi Fort: Gateway to the Maratha Navy\!** Located west of Kalyan city (a historic, busy junction & ancient international harbor during the Satvaahan era). Built by Shivaji Maharaj, this renovated fort marked the start of the Maratha Navy. Historically well-fortified with 11 bastions and multiple entrances.

History & Significance
**Durgadi Fort: A History of Battles & Ships** * **1654 (Oct 24):** Shivaji Maharaj captured Kalyan/Bhiwandi (from Adilshah) and built this fort near the creek. Used as a dock for shipbuilding\! * **Origin Story:** Wealth found during excavation led to the name "Durgadi" (due to Goddess Durga's blessings). 340 Portuguese workers built it. * **The Tug-of-War:** * **1682:** Captured by Moghul Sardar Hasan Ali Khan. * **Recaptured** by Sambhaji Maharaj. * **1689:** Taken back by the Moghuls. * Later, fell into the hands of the Peshwas. * **1728:** Portuguese attack repelled by Peshwa commander Shankarji Keshav\!

Revived by Ramji Mahadev Bivalkar (Subhedar of Kalyan) during the Peshwa rule. * **Remnants:** Two more bastions and fort ruins visible by the creek.
