About Dharavi Fort
**Dharavi Fort: The Nose of Vasai\!** Located near Bhayander, this strategic fort is often called the "nose" of Vasai Fort. Don't mistake it for the 'Kala Killa' of Dharavi! The island was vital in the 1737 Maratha-Portuguese battle. Standing opposite Vasai Fort, its unique location (between Vasai Creek and the Arabian Sea) allowed forces to cut off Portuguese trade and keep watch on Vasai. It played a major role in the Vasai mission, led by Chimaji Appa.

History & Significance
Dharavi Fort: Built in a hurry on April 12, 1737, during the attack on Dharavi island. Initial construction by Marathas employed 2,200 laborers (Rs. 5/- daily wage, per Shankarji Keshav's letter to Chimaji Appa). The Portuguese attacked, seized the fort, and completed the build. Marathas saw Dharavi as key to conquering Vasai fort. Timeline of Conquest: Nov 30, 1737: Marathas (4,000 Hashams, 100 Horsemen) conquered it. Feb 28, 1737: Portuguese recaptured it. March 9, 1738: Chimaji Appa's attempt failed. March 6, 1739: Marathas finally won the fort after a year-long battle. Final Change: The British conquered the fort in 1818 A.D.
