History & Significance
Protecting Mumbai's eastern coast alongside St. George, Dongri, and Mazgaon forts. *History:* Built for defense, Bahadur Khan added a shrine. The Portuguese refurbished it after the 1534 pact. After the Siddi of Janjira attacked, the British strengthened it (1680). When Yakut Khan (Siddi of Janjira) attacked Mumbai, he captured Sewri, Mazgaon, and Mahim. Sewri Fort held \~50 soldiers, 1 subhedar, and 10 canons. *Past Uses:* Originally a watchtower for trade (Panvel, Uran, Thane, Gharapuri). Later, the British used it as a prison, and the Bombay Port Trust used it as a warehouse. Located on the Eastern Parel island.
