About Mohangad
Gateway to Konkan! These ghats (Kavlya ghat, Singapur Naal, Borotyachi Naal, Bocheghol Naal, Nisanichi Vaat) linked villages to markets on Maharashtra's west shore. Varandha ghat was key, connecting Mahad (Konkan) to Bhor. Base village Durgadi gives Mohangad its 'Durgadi fort' name. The mountain is named after Goddess Janani, whose temple crowns the top.

History & Significance
Forts were built here to protect vital trade ghats. During the Battle of Pratapgad, Shivaji Maharaj ordered Jaslodhgad (long unused) be repaired, renamed Mohangad, and garrisoned (5-25 soldiers) in a letter to Bajiprabhu Deshpande. In 2008, Sachin Joshi (Pune) used this letter to confirm Durgadi/Janani hill is the lost Jaslodhgad/Mohangad.
Places to See
