Hanumantgad(Sindhudurg)

Built by the Fond Sawants of Sawantwadi to guard against the Portuguese and Karvirkars. In 1838, after the British took over Sawantwadi, Aatmo Chaukekar and colleagues briefly seized control in a revolt, but the attempt failed due to internal conspiracies.

Fort Trail Highlights:1. **Start Point:** Take the unpaved road from Fukeri villages leading north toward the mountain. 2. **Ascend:** A walking trail leads to the plateau. The climb is exhausting, but ruins of the entrance gate and fortification wall, marked by a saffron flag, await. 3. **Entry:** Enter the fort via a South-facing gate. 4. **The Citadel:** The fort plateau is large; the citadel likely stood centrally. 5. **North End:** Walk along the right edge to see fort wall ruins and a built lake. 6. **Main Doorway?** Moving east from the lake reveals a devastated entrance, likely the main doorway based on its design. 7. **Trail End:** The trail completes at the South-facing doorway. 8. **Historical Find:** In Fukeri village, two cannons buried upside down are inscribed with the make year: 1783.
