About Kurinjal Peak

Kurinjal Peak is a pristine, deeply immersive forest trail. While the main Kudremukh peak is famous for its open, rolling grasslands, Kurinjal is characterized by its ancient, dark, and damp evergreen Shola forests. The trail eventually breaks through the tree line, leading to a prominent rocky summit that overlooks the vast, green valleys of the national park.

Best time to visit

October, November, December, January, February

History & Significance

Before strict environmental regulations reclaimed the area, parts of this extended forest were frequently traversed by workers and surveyors from the now-abandoned Kudremukh Iron Ore Company. An old, rusted receiver station antenna still sits mysteriously along the trail.

Places to See

The dense tropical rainforest canopy, Bhagavathi Nature Camp, the abandoned receiver antenna, and the sheer cliff-drop views from the Kurinjal summit rock.

Journey & Transport

How to Reach

By Road: Drive towards Kudremukh township (approached via Kalasa or the SK Border). The trek formally starts right off the main highway at the Bhagavathi Nature Camp entrance. By Bus: Take a KSRTC bus to Kalasa or Kudremukh town, then use local transport to reach the camp.

Important Notes

Leeches: Because the trail is mostly under a thick, damp canopy, leech infestations are severe; leech socks and salt are mandatory. Plastic Ban: Zero-tolerance plastic policy enforced at the check-post. Nearby police station: Kudremukh Police Station Nearby hospital: Government Hospital, Kudremukh

Facilities

  • StayPitching tents is strictly banned inside the national park. Trekkers can book the forest department-run Bhagavathi Nature Camp right at the base, or stay in homestays in nearby Kudremukh town or Kalasa.
  • FoodThere are absolutely no food stalls on the trail. You must carry a packed lunch (usually provided by the nature camp or your homestay) to eat near the summit.
  • WaterThere are pristine forest streams in the initial sections where you can refill, but starting with at least 2 liters of water per person is mandatory.
