About Nishani Motte
Nishani Motte is a striking peak in the Talakaveri range that offers a quieter, less commercialized trekking experience compared to Tadiandamol. The trail takes you through a beautiful cross-section of aromatic coffee and cardamom plantations, dense Shola forests, and finally opens up to rolling alpine meadows and a panoramic 360-degree view at the summit.

History & Significance
The name "Nishani Motte" translates to "Marked Hill" in the local Kodava language. During the British colonial era, the peak was used as a prominent geographical landmark and navigation point to find directions across the densely forested mountain paths.

The beautiful Shola forest canopy, Talakaveri Temple (the sacred origin of the River Cauvery, located near the starting point), and Bhagamandala Temple at the base.

How to Reach
By Road: Drive to Madikeri, then proceed about 35 km to Bhagamandala. * By Bus: Take a KSRTC bus from Bengaluru/Mysore to Madikeri, and then take a local bus to Bhagamandala. The actual trek starts after a short jeep ride or walk from Bhagamandala to the Talakaveri forest check-post.
Important Notes
Permits: Forest permission and guide fees must be arranged at the base. Leeches: If trekking during or just after the rains, leech socks or salt/Dettol are absolutely essential. Wildlife: Elephants and leopards roam the sanctuary, reinforcing the need to stick with your guide and avoid trekking before sunrise or after dark. Facilities
- StayPitching tents on the peak or inside the sanctuary is not allowed. Trekkers must stay in homestays or budget hotels in the base town of Bhagamandala or near Madikeri.
- FoodThere are no food stalls or water sources once you enter the forest. Trekkers must carry a packed lunch and snacks from Bhagamandala before starting the trail.
- WaterNatural water sources on this trail are unreliable (especially in winter/summer). It is mandatory to carry at least 2 liters of drinking water per person from the base.
