About Savandurga Rock Climbing & Technical Trek
As one of Asia's largest monoliths, Savandurga is a world-class destination for slab climbing. Unlike the standard trekking path, the technical routes take you up sheer granite faces using bolts and natural fissures. The Karigudda peak (The Black Hill) is much steeper, heavily forested at the base, and far less frequented, offering a raw and punishing adventure for experienced climbers.
Best time to visit
November, December, January, February
History & Significance
The rock was historically used for military defense because of its "unclimbable" nature. In modern times, it has become a training ground for professional Indian mountaineers and rock climbers due to its unique friction-climbing challenges.
Places to See
The "Arkavathi" river view from the vertical faces, the ancient fort walls that seem to defy gravity, and the cave systems at the base of Karigudda.
