How to Reach
Sondai Fort Routes (2 Options) **1. Via Sondewadi (Easier, Faster)** * **From Karjat Station:** Take an auto (9 km) to Sondewadi village. * **Alternative:** Take a 6-seater auto or ST from Karjat Chowk, alight at Borgaon Phata. Walk 3 km along Morbe Dam road to Sondewadi. * **Climb Time:** Approx. 1 - 1.5 hours.**2. Via Vavarle (Tougher, Longer)** * **From Karjat Station:** Head East. Take a 6-seater auto or ST (approx. 4 km) from Karjat-Chowk to Vavarle village Phata (look for the arch). * **Route:** Follow the arch path to Vavarle dam (30 min). The path on the right of the dam wall goes to Vavarle Thakarwadi. Cross a hillock and stream (15 min) to reach the plateau (where it meets the Sondewadi trail). * **Best Time:** After Nov-Dec, avoid the Thakarwadi climb by following the stream flow direction. * **Climb Time:** Approx. 2 - 3 hours. (This route is more tiresome than Sondewadi.) * **Driving:** Via Mumbai-Panvel highway to Chowk. On Karjat-Chowk road, Borgaon Phata is 6 km; Vavarle Phata is 9 km.
Important Notes
⚠️ **Safety & Route Tips** * **Rainy Season:** Carved sockets/ladders are unreliable. **Carry a rope (30ft min.)** for safety. * **Summer:** Water levels drop in cisterns. **Carry a rope** to pull out water. * **Ascend:** Use the **Sondewadi route**. * **Descend:** Use the **Vavarle route** (Easier to spot the village/surroundings from the top, less chance of getting lost).
