Vetal Tekdi is the highest point within Pune city limits. It serves as a vital green lung and a popular hub for hikers, runners, and nature photographers. The hill offers a sweeping 360-degree view of Pune, including the skyline of Kothrud, Pashan, and Shivajinagar.

History & Significance

Named after the Vetala temple located on its plateau. It has historically been part of the Bhamburda forest reserve and has transitioned from a grazing ground to a protected biodiversity park through extensive citizen-led conservation efforts.

How to Reach

By Bus: Take a PMPML bus to Kothrud (Paud Road) or Shivajinagar and take an auto to the ARAI gate or the Kanchan Gali entrance. By Road: Drive to the ARAI hill base in Kothrud or the Chaturshringi Temple base to find the trailheads.

Important Notes

Timing: The hill is officially open for restricted hours (typically 5:00 AM - 8:00 AM and 5:15 PM - 7:00 PM on weekdays). Environment: It is a plastic-free zone; please do not litter. Parking: Designated parking is available near the ARAI gate. Nearby police station: Kothrud Police Station/ Chaturshringi Police Station Nearby hospital: Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital, Kothrud/ Shashwat Hospital

  • StayNo overnight stay permitted on the hill. Numerous hotels and homestays are available at the base in Kothrud, Erandwane, and Shivajinagar.
  • FoodNo commercial food stalls on the hill itself. Popular breakfast joints and cafes are located at the base in Kothrud and near the ARAI entrance.
  • WaterNot available on the hill. Visitors are strongly advised to carry at least 1-2 liters of water.
