Bahadurwadi gad

Built by Madhavrao Peshwa, this fort guarded the Maratha borders (Kolhapur & Satara were strongholds). Control passed from the Patwardhan family of Sangli to the Mudholkar Ghorpade family.

Explore the Fort's Fascinating Spots! A trench, now covered in greenery, surrounds the fort. Note the filled section opposite the entrance, now a road. The two entrance bastions have been refurbished, and you'll find gatekeeper porches and steps to the entrance door top inside. The fort features two fortification walls: the outer wall has 18 bastions, the inner has 8. The base (12) of walls and bastions is black rock; the rest is brick. Look for narrow windows and openings. Rooms opposite the entrance, once stables for horses, have four doors. Inside the inner wall (citadel), dense vegetation hides structural remains. Straight past the entrance, find a door leading to a step well. Nearby are a small water tank and a tower pot for Holy Basil. A secret doorway is located in the outer fortified wall, further past the well. The step well is now protected by a surrounding wall.
