About Jamgaon Fort

Jamgaon Fort: Land fort in Parner taluka, Ahmednagar district. Now hosts a D.Ed. college in Mahadji Shinde's residence, controlling the site. Access is restricted to holidays (only one door open). Plan a day trip by car to see the fort, Siddheshwar temple (12 km), Talki Dhokeshwar's Hindu Brahmani caves (32 km), and Palshi land fort/Vitthal temple (further 25 km).

Places to See

Explore this 83-acre fort, nestled against a small hill! Its fortified wall features 20 bastions. Entrance: Find the door facing the Malganga temple on Jamgaon-Parner road (2 bastions remain). Through the eastward-facing inner door (opposite Lord Hanuman temple), you enter a dual fortification leading to Mahadji Shinde's residence. Inside Highlights: * Turn left for the Peshwa-era Lord Ram temple (and a Hanuman temple opposite). * See the Vitthal Rakhumai temple nearby. * Note: The main door at the backside is currently closed.History: The village of Jamgaon once stood inside the fort premises; remnants of ancient houses are visible. Other Sights: On the right, find a Mosque with three arcs. The mansion is protected by a dual fortified wall with six bastions, and features a horse stable, eight access stairs, and a huge well. Visit time: The entire fort can be explored in 30 minutes. (A college now occupies the mansion and has made structural changes.)

Jamgaon Fort Access: From Kalyan-Nagar route, take the road from Takli Dhokeshwar village (33 kms) to Parner. Jamgaon fort is just 12 kms from Parner. Total distance from Kalyan is ~203 kms via Parner-Jamgaon road.
