About Pabargad

Ahmednagar Forts: Rustic & Rugged. These forts (Alang, Madan, Kulang, Kalsubai near Igatpuri) are high and tough to climb. Pabargad, a smaller fort, is located on the Ghoti-Sangameshwar road, opposite the vast Bhandardara waters.

Places to See

Ascend 15 min to the rock patch. **Route Split:** Path to the fort top goes up; another path moves alongside the patch. **Rock-Cut Cave 1:** Accommodates 15 people. **Cave 2 (Ahead):** Contains a water tank (water is drinkable below the dirty surface). **Fort Top:** Find 3 water tanks (water not drinkable) and a Shiv Linga. **Citadel Path (Left):** Leads to another summit. Features a large water tank with a carved **Lord Hanuman** sculpture. **Lookout Point:** Pass a cleft (no descent route). View remains of two house-like structures and an empty water tank on the opposite hill. **Final Summit:** Use rock-cut steps. At the top, see a raised ground level with 4 non-potable water tanks below. **Temple:** Adjacent to the tank is the **Bhairoba Temple** with a **Ganesh idol** and the local deity **“Tandla”** inscribed in stone. **Views:** Spot **Patta, Ratangad, Alang, Madan, Kulang forts** and **Kalsubai peak**.

How to Reach

Reaching Pabargad Fort: Location: Bhandardara-Sangamner route. Base Village: Guhire (backside of the fort). Reach Guhire by bus from Igatpuri, Ghoti, Sangamner, Pune, or Akole. Hike Start: Behind the Lord Hanuman temple in Guhire. Trail:1. Follow the path behind the temple. You will pass a water tank. 2. Reach a rock wall. Keep the wall to your right and climb to the flat area above (the plateau). 3. The fort edge is visible from here. 4. Climb the ridge opposite the fort (30-min trail). 5. The path turns right, keeping the cliff to your left (20-min). 6. Arrive at the cleft between the fort and the opposite hill. 7. Climb the final rock patch to reach the summit.
