About Rajkot

Shivaji Maharaj built Padmagad, Rajkot, and Sarjekot to defend Sindhudurga. Rajkot, on a natural elevation north of Malvan, offered key protection to that area.

History & Significance

Built by Shivaji Maharaj (1664-1667). In 1766, a treaty with the British and Chatrapati of Karveer allowed a potential ship-building yard in Rajkot. By 1862, references mention remnants and a cannon remaining.

Places to See

Explore the Fort's key spots! Only one bastion remains, surrounded by land on three sides and the sea on one. Look for the flag host—it warns boats of the rocky coast. Nearby, a rock garden offers stunning views of waves hitting the rocks. Don't miss the golden-idol Ganesh temple (on the way from Rajkot to Malvan) and the historic Mauni Maharaj temple, built by Shivaji Maharaj in Medha Rajkot.
