Ratnadurg (Bhagavati Fort): Just 2-3 km from Ratnagiri city! This horseshoe-shaped fort covers 120 acres and offers stunning sea views. Key attractions: the beautiful Bhagvati Temple and a secret path to the sea. Surrounded by ocean on three sides, it connects to the land at the southeast. Mirkarwada harbour is at the base.

History & Significance

Ratnadurg Fort: Built during Bahamani rule. Conquered by Shivaji Maharaj from Adilshah in 1670. Reconstructed and strengthened in 1790 by Dhondu Bhaskar Pratinidhi.

Explore the Fort's Highlights! See the well-built Shree Bhagvati temple near the entrance. Discover the tri-faced gallery, a secret way to the sea (not currently in use). You can view the big cave at the end of this path from the ramparts (between the main entrance and the lighthouse). Enjoy a fascinating view of the seashore from the 'Rede Buruj' bastion, which features a pillar. The fort grounds also have a small lake and a well. Nearby, a lighthouse offers views of Ratnagiri city and the beautiful sea. Get an auto rickshaw easily from Ratnagiri city. Tip: Arrive by 5 PM for a chance to go up the lighthouse!

Easy Access: A well-built road leads to the fort's summit. At the base, visit the Shree Bhageshwar temple featuring carved paintings on its pillars. The temple surroundings boast coconut trees and a flower garden.
