Sitabuldi Fort (Sitabardi Fort) Near Nagpur Railway Station. Historic Site: The Bhosales of Nagpur fought the British here in 1817 (British victory). Control: Managed by the Indian Army. Parts are inaccessible. Note: Structural changes made for Army use. Visit Dates: Only open on Jan 26, May 1, and Aug 15. Hours: 9 am - 3 pm. Expect large crowds on these dates.

History & Significance
Originally called Shitalabadri (named for rulers Shitalaprasad and Badriprasad of the Yadav clan). Post-1857 Uprising, the British executed Nawab Kadar (Tipu Sultan's grandson) and 8 companions here. Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned here (April 10 - May 15, 1923). King George V and Queen Mary also visited this fort.
Places to See
The fort spans two hills (one small, one big). The path was created by blasting the rock. See structures built during the British Rule. Look for the pillar honoring King George V & Queen Mary's visit. Next is the cave-like second entrance with steps leading to the Masjid of Baba Navgaj Ali (built for Tipu Sultan's grandson and companions who were hanged here). Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned in the building opposite the Masjid. Another entrance nearby is prohibited. Inside the fortified wall: a trench and a well. out British-era canons. A large canon, discovered in 2014, lies outside the exit door.
